CHRONOLOGIES
And so, in this section I'll be providing a year-by-year overview of the most important social, economic, cultural, and musical events.
To understand the music of each era, I'm convinced it's necessary to understand the context and what was happening at the time.
Unlike previous versions, these are separated by decade, since it would soon become impossible to display all the years in a single sub-index.
This gave me the opportunity to create new entries that offer a general overview of the characteristics of each decade: each generation, the technology, the icons, the films, series, and cartoons that defined each one, as well as a review of the evolution of record labels.
Regarding the characteristics of each generation, I'm not a sociologist, and you'll notice that the age ranges for each generation overlap or don't coincide with other publications. The generational range often overlaps by 5-10 years with the previous or following one; often, much older generations also adopt traits from newer ones, and I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. Any errors are simply due to trying to define the characteristics of each decade.
The year-by-year chronologies are more specific, focusing on the most relevant events, both historical and musical.
I will also be adding the most representative albums of each year. Note that these are the albums that made the biggest impact and were important for the year. I'm not saying they're the best, or even all the albums. I can't avoid some omissions or date errors. If there's an album missing or from a different year, please let me know and I'll correct it as soon as possible.
The albums will cover various genres. Starting in 1950, there will obviously be little Rock at the beginning, with Jazz and Blues predominating. I'm also considering adding Reggae, Funk, Soul, etc. Even some good quality pop, but don't expect to find any Britney Spears-style bubblegum pop albums.
Anyway, it's a more difficult project than I thought, but I'll be going year by year in reverse until I reach the 2000s. We're currently in the mid-70s, so there's still a long way to go.
To go to each year, just hover your cursor over the page corresponding to the decade in the sidebar, and the reviewed years will appear on the right. Click on the year you want to look up, and voilà!
Cheers!
