THE CAVERN 3.0
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Cavern 3.0, now on the Wix platform.
I made the decision to move because Webs changed its website editor at the end of 2016. We lost the custom backgrounds for groups and editing functionality, but most importantly, the new design made everything look much more cramped and confined. Claustrophobic is the word I was looking for! Plus, they kept adding ads, even though it's not exactly cheap. I tried some modifications, but they only made it worse. At the beginning of 2017, I realized that this year we would be celebrating Cavern's 10th anniversary, and that wasn't the site I wanted for you. After looking at a few options, I liked the Wix design.
If you were wondering why I've posted so little this year, here's why. I've been working on migrating everything we had on Webs since January. Why did it take so long when the migration took only two months in 2011? Well, back then we had a lot less material than we do today. As of June 30, 2011, we had 216 entries, including reviews, intros, charts, and Ages of Rock. Between July 15 and September 2, 2011, I completed 27 missing intros, and we had the first new review on Webs on September 7, 2011, which was, as some may remember, Tommy by The Who.
This time, the move consisted of 555 entries, including:
94 intros
369 reviews
11 concerts. As you can see, I decided to eliminate the external reviews and leave only the ones from concerts I attended.
27 Chart entries, including the "Separators" for each instrument, to which I added a video.
16 Ages of Rock
38 Chronologies, including some previously unpublished ones. As you'll see, the separation is different than on the Webs, because due to the number of years covered, the subscript wouldn't be visible, so I separated them by decade. The "Intros" by decade are new, and you'll also find some years that weren't published on the Webs.
Among the Intros, there are 4 new ones, as you'll see below this entry... I finally decided to separate the Ex-Beatles into their respective spaces, so we have 4 new intros!!! This was mainly the reason for the delay. I was hoping to have the 4 intros completed yesterday, to which I've dedicated almost all my time since the weekend. As always, they've taken longer than expected, but I hope to do justice to what these 4 long-haired guys deserve, and it also serves to complete, in four pieces, the history of the quartet that was left hanging in the Beatles' own intro. These are the only four entries that complement each other, giving a view of the Beatles' history from each perspective. If you notice omissions in the story, they may be explained from another perspective.
By the way, you'll also notice changes in the table of contents. I was once asked why I added "The" to some bands and not to others. I suppose it's out of habit or familiarity, but in this version, this detail has been corrected, so there are changes in the order of the table of contents.
The entries appear with the original publication date, from Blogger to Webs, and the most recent ones on Wix that I didn't publish before on Webs.
We have two new indexes as Home subtabs: one with only album reviews we've kept up to date, with the album's release date, where we can see how trends have changed and their relationship with the genres I cover in Ages of Rock. I'm not finished with the links to each review yet, but they'll be ready soon. The other is by publication date in La Caverna, where you can see the date from the oldest posts to the most recent, with ALL the site's content. I'm also still working on the links.
We have the Forum, which is different from the one we had on Webs. I haven't migrated anything here, but I'll be adding the most interesting topics and the Top Ten soon. For this, I'll ask for your help registering (the registration button appears only on Home or the Forum) and copying your contributions or replies.
The album covers are the same for obvious reasons, and you'll find some familiar images, but for the most part, all the backgrounds and intro headers are new. Wix also allows us to add movement to photos.
The mobile version required me to adjust each post, a situation I hadn't anticipated, and which took more time than expected. I wanted to read and correct each and every post since there were still formatting issues, but I haven't been able to. I also considered rewriting some of the earlier posts, but I've preferred to resort to nostalgia. Obviously, I've changed my mind on some things, and there are reviews that I think fall short of my current style, but I think that's part of the charm, seeing the evolution of the writing.
Anyway, there's still a lot to do, but the Webs renewal is on June 30th, a month earlier than I thought, and I decided to hurry up with the move since I'll be canceling the Webs account to avoid paying double the annual fee. For this reason, if there are any Forum posts you want to move, we have 15 days to do so, because, to be honest, I don't know if all the content on Webs will be deleted when I don't renew my payment. We still don't have ads, except for a couple of small Wix gadgets, but it no longer displays pages with ads like Webs did. I only ask, as a favor, if you like the new page, help me by sharing it on social media so I can reach more people!
There are different things that will take some getting used to. It may be more complicated in some ways for the Admins, but I think we've gained a lot in terms of design and navigation. I hope you like it.
Anyway, welcome to this, your new home and that of The Cavern 3.0, celebrating its Tenth Anniversary! I hope you enjoy it. Now, let's read and take a tour!
